Winter Projects

A few years back I decided to give crochet try, coming from a fabric background I had always found yarn a little daunting, especially knitting! I don't know why but it looked so complicated. So my first attempt with yarn crafts was crochet.

Very quickly I got the knack and fell in love with it, my first real project was a few years back and it was the chevron blanket (which is used daily and lives on a chair in our living room) it's by no means perfect, but having said that it held up through sick days, camping trips, movie nights and uncountable forts.

I have a few places I get my patterns from, I think my ultimate favourite pattern shop is Two Of Wands I have five of their crochet patterns so far, but this pattern and this one are really inspiring me to try out knitting! What I love about Two Of Wands is how they are very minimal and modern, the patterns are great whatever your style.

A second Etsy shop I have a few patterns from is The Velvet Acorn They have some really lovely earthy style patterns which are a little more whimsy. Both of these shops offer knitting and crochet patterns plus they are very reasonably priced.

Another place I head to for patterns is good old ravelry, I'm pretty sure they're most peoples first port of call. It's a great place to discover new pattern shops and designers.

When it comes to learning new stiches or if I need a bit of a refresh I genrally head over to youtube,  personally I find the tutorials by New Stitch A Day  really clear and helpfull.

I'm Currently working on the Creme De La Creme pattern from Two Of Wands, thats my current crochet project of the week.

Do you do any yarn crafts? got any favourite patterns for me?

Gifts with HomeSense

This year I have been pretty good with my Christmas shopping, but let me be honest there are always a few last minute dashes to grab a few extras, or you might be like my brother who is notorious for doing 99% of his shopping on Christmas eve!

While most of my shopping is done I'm guilty of going out and grabbing a last few bits and pieces, in fact that was on today's to-do list. HomeSense is one of my favourite haunts for gifts, no matter who I'm buying for (including myself) I can always find a bunch of options so it's always my first port of call.

HomeSense have such a great collection of unique gifts for everyone and every style. One of my favourite gifts to buy from there are photo frames, they have some beautiful Indian wooden ones in all shapes and sizes then you can personalise them with a lovely photos to give to friends or family.

Another great gift idea is perusing there food and condiments section, I love that bit! You can always find beautifully packaged goodies and yummy sounding treats, you can collect some great bits and bobs to make a hamper to gift and in the words of my Grandpa "if you can't eat or drink a gift then what's the point".

One last gift idea or add on gift is buying a pretty holiday decoration for the tree, I think they make a great gift.  In my local HomeSense they had doughnut and dinosaurs decoration, they were so cute! Plus they have such a huge collection of amazing designs so you will surly find one to fit their style.

What's your top gift buys for the holidays?

How is it already December 7th?! We decorated our house pretty early this year which was on the 29th of November. We usually wait until the first weekend in December but what can I say I'm feeling pretty festive.

I love sifting through my decoration collection each year, a lot of them have lovely memories, I have so many gifted from family and friends, including a very loved one from my Great Granny (as a kid I always loved a specific velour red bauble and blue bubbly glass bauble, and now I love that they have pride of place on my tree). Personally I think sentimental decorations are so much more special for this time of year.

My gorgeous twig and dot candle is still going strong and filling my home with an incredibly festive scent. Plus I gave my homemade door wreath a mini makeover which I'm pretty happy with, I like the idea of changing it up each year.

However you celebrate the season, happy holidays.
